Job Opportunity: Research Scientist

Who we are looking for:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to fulfil the role of Research Scientist in our R&D lab. An ideal candidate will be a skilled experimental scientist, a problem solver with a substantial fundamental scientific background and excellent hands-on skills in designing, building, and testing experimental apparatus. Experience in developing and implementing laser/optical systems, vacuum equipment, and spectroscopy systems is strongly preferred. Strong innate ability to seek new knowledge, generate ideas, and operate in a team environment will be indispensable. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and build laboratory prototypes containing following system modules/components: lasers, optical and/or photonic components, RF and microwave devices, control electronics, optical/microwave diagnostics tools, vacuum systems
  • Run experiments and collect/analyze data
  • Identify and solve technical problems to achieve project goals
  • Work closely with scientists and engineers to develop a technology and deliver an integrated product
  • Write technical proposals and reports

Minimum qualifications and Nice-to-haves:
  • PhD in experimental physics, physical chemistry, EE, or related field is required. For exceptionally qualified individuals, MS with 5+ years of relevant work experience can also be considered
  • Proficiency with experimental research techniques in optics, photonics, atomic/molecular spectroscopy, or closely related disciplines
  • Intimate familiarity with common laboratory instrumentation, electronics, and data acquisition/processing
  • Experience in scientific writing
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW/Python/MATLAB/C++/C# (at least one)

Job Opportunity: Lab Engineer

Focusing on developing technologies for medical and industrial metrology applications, we have an array of exciting projects that involve building and testing laboratory prototypes of our future commercial products.

Who we are looking for:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to fulfill the role of Lab Engineer. An ideal candidate will be an engineer or a scientist with previous experience in designing/assembling hardware prototypes and developing automated data acquisition. Experience in developing real-time multi-variable data acquisition and processing is required. Hands-on experience in designing and building laboratory instrumentation is required. An ideal fit for this position would be an individual with attention to detail and problem-solving ability that can learn new skills quickly and apply them to real-world problems.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and build laboratory prototypes containing following system modules/components: fluid circulation systems with distributed sensors, vacuum/pumping systems, electric circuitry, mechanical fixtures/actuators
  • Write software code for data acquisition, automation/control, etc.
  • Run experiments and collect/analyze data
  • Work closely with scientists and software/hardware engineers to develop fully integrated products
  • Write technical reports and present results

Minimum qualifications and Nice-to-haves:
  • Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience in relevant fields (e.g., Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Physics, etc.) is required
  • This position is also a great fit for a fresh Ph.D. graduate who is eager to apply skills he/she learned in academia to solving real-world problems
  • Proficiency with lab instrumentation and data acquisition software development using LabVIEW, Python, or other programming languages is required
  • Ability to collect and analyze a large experimental dataset from various instruments and use creative approach to troubleshooting is required
  • Hands-on experience with machine shop/fabrication, soldering, and 3D printing is a significant plus
  • Experience with CAD software: SOLIDWORKS, Autodesk Fusion 360, or others is a plus
  • Experience in numerical simulation of fluid mechanics and/or heat transfer is a plus (Ansys Fluent, etc.)
  • Good inter-personal communication skills are a must: you will be a part of a small team of professionals and ability to get along with people in a high-pace environment is essential
