Sr. Electrical Engineer

Job Opportunity: Sr. Electrical Engineer

About us:

Hedgefog Research (HFR) is a young, fast-growing R&D/Manufacturing company located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area (San Pedro, CA). Focusing on developing technologies for scientific, industrial, and medical metrology applications, we have an array of exciting projects that involve building and testing laboratory prototypes of our future commercial products. As a small tech company, we offer an exciting work environment and career paths to grow.

Who we are looking for:

We are seeking a highly motivated Electronics Design professional to fulfill the role of Sr. Electrical Engineer. An ideal candidate will be a skilled hands-on electronics developer with a demonstrated record of success in the industrial and R&D applications and, in particular, with interest and experience in early product cycle development. Of special interest are individuals with experience in miniature electro-optical system design and integration, such as circuits involving diode lasers and LEDs, CMOS sensors, driving electronics and power sources, and data acquisition and processing. Expertise and prior experience in flexible circuits and wearable electronics is also highly desirable for this position. A successful candidate will be an independent thinker and problem-solver and will be expected to interface closely with our scientific staff. Consequently, a solid grasp of the fundamental physical concepts including light-matter interaction, spectra, basic principles of quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, fluidics, etc. will be expected.

Responsibilities:

-        Interface with HFR’s scientific staff and develop electronic design requirements in accordance with current project needs

-        Design and produce experimental electronics for HFR’s R&D prototypes (TRL 3-5)

-        Design, produce, and incrementally improve electronic circuits for HFR’s commercial products (TRL 6+)

-        Troubleshoot and optimize existing designs

-        Identify and solve technical problems to achieve project goals

-        Work closely with scientists and engineers to develop a technology and deliver an integrated product

-        Present the development results and write technical reports

Minimum qualifications and Nice-to-haves:

-        Ability and demonstrated record of success in full-cycle electronic prototyping: from analyzing requirements, to developing architecture, to circuit design, to printed board procurement and testing. (Required)

-        Intimate familiarity with common lab and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, etc. (Required)

-        Experience utilizing schematic and layout tools. (Required)

-        Experience in two or more of the following: signal processing, multimodal sensing, sensor fusion, time series, time-frequency analysis, signal conditioning and signal-to-noise analysis is desired.

-        Strong familiarity with microcontroller firmware development is desired.

-        Prior experience with flexible circuit design and wearable electronics is strongly desired.

-        Experience with MIL-SPEC standards compliance is desired. In particular, prior experience with MIL-STD-810 qualification is a plus.

-        Good technical writing skills and experience with writing grant and contract proposals is desired.

-        Good inter-personal communication skills are required: you will join a small team of professionals and ability to get along with people in a high-pace environment is essential.
